Default Sound and Music Tutorial

Following a recent successful airing at the AES convention in New York we're making our Game Audio Tutorial (built in Unreal) freely available. By 'playing' the level and opening it up to see how it works you'll hopefully learn a bit about interactive sound and music for games and specifically how to implement it using the Unreal engine.

See a demo video here

You can download the level from the IASIG website or here.
Follow the instructions in the 'Readme' file.

We hope you enjoy it,
Dave Raybould, Richard Stevens.

ps. Thanks again to the fantastic Rodrigo Rubilar for providing the music cues for the level !

Cool

But you should mention the file size, 241 MB is enormous for a tutorial

THX for sharing

Yes it's large but there are 10 video tutorials embedded in the level - hence the size !

You don't need to distribute local shader cache files with it, infact that might even cause problems.
Is the CustomChars folder meant to be empty?
The files can go in the Published/CookedPC folder and skip the need to create the unpublished shortcut.
You've also included DM-GamesRooms2 but made no mention of it in the readme, .pdf, on your website or in the post which I'd generally consider bad form.

Infact, install instructions:

Download the .zip file.
Extract the .zip to a temporary location.
Open the folder "The Game Audio Tutorial V01", then "CookedPC".
Delete the empty folder "CustomChars".
Delete the files "LocalShaderCache-PC-D3D-SM2.upk", "LocalShaderCache-PC-D3D-SM3.upk" and "LocalShaderCache-PC-D3D-SM4.upk".
Move or Cut and Paste the folder "CustomMaps" and all of the remaining files in the "\The Game Audio Tutorial V01\CookedPC" folder to "My Documents\My Games\Unreal Tournament 3\UTGame\Published\CookedPC" and click Yes when it asks if you want to overwrite "CustomMaps" (assuming you have some custom maps installed, otherwise it won't need to ask).
Delete the files extracted from the .zip to the temporary location, which should just be the "The Game Audio Tutorial V01" folder containing "README.txt", "The Game Audio Tutorial.pdf" and an empty "CookedPC" folder.
Load UT3 via your normal shortcut, go to Instant Action, Deathmatch, select the map "GameAudioTutorial01" and set Number of Combatants to 1 and Time Limit to 0, remove any active mutators and then start the match.
Turn your volume up.

Sorry to sound negative but I'm just trying to help, I'll give the actual level a run through when I get chance and I dare say it'll be mentioned in the next GamesModding.com news roundup.

The 'Gamesrooms2' is a bonus section that opens from the tutorial map when you pass through the final door. I don't know what the 'form' is but when people play the level hopefully this will become clear. Thanks for the other advice.

I meant giving people random maps aswell as what they knew they were downloading and then not explaining what they were in the documentation isn't something you should really do, thus it would be considered "bad form" to do so
